Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
