Senate Greenlights Legislation to Release Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a bill that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files associated with the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the lower house and a shift by the president and his Republican allies. The White House gave in after an extended period of trying to forestall the cross-party initiative involving a scandal that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Swift Approval in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House voted decisively for the bill on a massive majority.

The public have endured sufficient delay. The survivors have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer declared in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”

Future Action

The bill next will be sent to Trump for his endorsement. The president stated on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Even though Trump has for months rejected the controversy over the official management of the investigation as a “political stunt”, he expressed his backing for the House bill over the past few days, and stated he would approve it if it reaches his desk.

Support and Opposition

Opposition lawmakers, along with survivors of Epstein and their representatives who were watching from a viewing area, applauded after the bill was approved. The sole “no” vote came from Clay Higgins, who said he worried the measure would make public personal information of witnesses, potential suspects and others implicated in the investigation.
